ADAM-4000 Series
The ADAM-4000 remote I/O modules are compact, versatile sensor-to-computer interfaces units designed specifically for reliable operation in harsh environments. With built-in microprocessors, encased in a rugged industrial grade plastic, they independently provide intelligent signal conditioning, analog and digital I/O with standard RS-485 communication.

RS-485 communication protocol
The ADAM-4000 remote I/O modules use the EIA RS-485 communication protocol, the industry’s most widely used bi-directional, balanced transmission line standard. The EIA RS-485 was specifically developed for industrial applications allowing the ADAM-4000 remote I/O modules to transmit and receive data at high speeds over long distances. All modules use optical isolators to prevent ground loop problems and reduce damage caused by power surges.
Modbus protocol support
Since Modbus is one of the most popular communication standards in the industrial world, Advantech has applied it as the major communication interface for all eAutomation product development. The new-generation ADAM-4000 series now supports the Modbus/RTU protocol as its remote data transmission mechanism.
Featuring the Modbus support capacity, the ADAM-4000 series have become universal remote I/O modules working within any Modbus-based system. Linked HMI servers and industrial controllers can read/write data via standard Modbus commands instead of complex ASCII code.
Watchdog Timer
The built-in watchdog timer supervisory function will automatically reset ADAM-4000 modules when required reducing the need for maintenance and system downtime.
ADAM-4100 Robust Modules for extreme environments
The ADAM-4000 series includes the robust ADAM-4100 modules. Each ADAM-4100 module is designed for reliable operation in harsh environments. They can operate within a wide -40C to +85C temperature range making them suitable for true rugged applications.
